The Road Thief

I wept in my sorrow and you said “Shh, it’s okay”

I ran from life, hiked up mountains, and crossed every river to escape, but-

You swept me off my feet and made me feel young.

You held my hand, comforted me, crushed my sadness and made me smile.

You showed me there was only living.

We laughed and we smiled. Together, we agreed to be one.

Grow old together, share life and love. I accepted.

With your best intentions, you could not avoid the call.

The road called to you and you dutifully answered.

It  took you hundreds of miles away.

Restless nights, tossing and turning, I wake alone.

How do I love you from a distance?

How do I feel you when you are so far away?

Will I be aged when we see each other again?

Will you be the same?

If I have accepted this fate, will I adapt?

Will I stay here, wait forever and hope you remember your way back home?

How does our story end?

Only time will tell if the road wins with its spell.
